Considering the number the cases though started as a temporary basis but in a short time Muzaffarnagar District Court was made permanent and bifurcated from Meerut district court. The first district judge was served by Sri M Chandra. The legal system under the expert judgeship became much bigger and soon there was a need of a larger court campus to execute all the cases in a timely and disciplined manner. This resulted into functioning of different courts under different roof and thus making the judicial system and the judicial staff stronger with a current strength of 38 members. In Muzaffarnagar district court, the officers in Judgeship includes District & Sessions Judge, Ex - Cadre Addl. District & Sessions Judge, Addl. District & Sessions Judge including Special judge , Chief Judicial Magistrate and three A.C.J.M. Civil Judge (J.D.) and three Addl. Civil Judge (J.D.), Civil Judge (S.D.) and three Addl. Civil Judge(S.D.) and two Judicial Magistrate.

Muzaffarnagar Outlying Courts of Kairana and Budhana


There are two outlying courts for Muzaffarnagar which are based at Kairana and Budhana. The tehsil of Kairana has 5 courts of which 4 serves the regular court trials while two serves as fast track court. Budhana has similarly proper set up to execute high end cases with regular trials. Lok Adalat Muzaffarnagar


Organized by District Legal Services Authority this is a particular court session which is scheduled at regular intervals on all pending cases where settlement is possible. However, Muzaffarnagar Lok Adalat works under certain rules and policies which need to be followed if one wants to appeal to this court. Such appeals from one party are not entertained and both parties needs to file an application and then the same will be placed before Lok Adalat. If settlement is possible the same will be done and if not the case gets returned back to respective tribunal court. The proceedings of Lok Adalat in Muzaffarnagar are usually done on every last Sunday of a particular month in the Court complex only. The District Judge is the President of District Legal Service Authority.

Court Timings

The District Court Muzaffarnagar functions 6 days a week and the timings for court operation remains from 10am to 5pm. In the midst a lunch break of 30 minutes is provided from 1:30pm to 2:00pm. However the second Saturday of the month remains non operational and no court proceedings can be done on that day. The filing counters of the court remains open from 10am to 12:30pm.
